 Profile

For the love of our dogs and the sport of sled racing Aussie style (called dryland racing) we have undertaken a small breeding program. We hope to continue to race and show our dogs, to promote the breed and the sport.

Pt Pirie 2011 BIS Runningdog Thats Kool 'Canto'

Our first litter was born 24th February 2002, seven lovely black and whites.  Misty had our second litter 26th

We are currently showing Canto and Mischka from Misty 2008 litter. Seen here the two pups are enjoying a run in the exercise yard.

Mischka is a mum!

Much to our delight at 8:15pm on Tuesday, Mischka very quietly gave birth to a boy and over the next 6 hours delivered a lovely litter of 3 boys and 5 girls.

All the puppies are doing well, feeding and putting on weight nicely. Mischka is a devoted and loving mum.

The White Flash Bash

The Odd Couple
Another great weekend in the forest. Sunday morning was a still crisp 4 degrees and the boys had another great run. Every time we get out they have got faster and more confident, this weekend we were within a whisker of averaging 20kpm. With just one more race this season I’m already starting to plan next season, eyeing off gigs and wondering if the boys will be as focussed with two girls behind them.
2011 Eaglepack Wild Dog Derby

What a great weekend. The weather was great, until it rained all morning on Sunday. The tracks were good and the dogs were pumped.

I’ve been having trouble with the boys stopping at the merest hint of a puddle. On Saturday morning it was cold and dry but I knew there was water right across the track about half way up the start straight and wasn’t confident about getting the boys across it. When we got there I ask Canto to go “on by” and waited to see what would happen. To my delight he took a moment and then picked a good line taking Angus with him.

Come Sunday the rain had set in and the tracks were awash so I again asked Canto to take us through and with each water hazard his confidence grew, picking better lines with increasing surety. Angus responded to Canto’s lead sticking with him the whole way. By the time I crossed the the finish line I was so proud of my boys.

Another day at the races

Second heat started badly. Up at 4:30am and it was still warm. Fed and toileted the dogs staying at home, packed the car to find we had a flat. Knew I should have bought those new tyres. Arrived late never good. After a poor first heat we were almost at the end of the field and had 45 seconds to catch the team in front. The boys went out hard chasing down Kym and his two labs, hitting the corners and digging deep until we hit the first creek. Just a sandy ditch with ankle deep water but it turned Canto into a show dog. Nope no way was he getting wet, had to drag him and Angus through. This was repeated at each water obstacle. They minced through the mud steadily loosing time. Back at camp we spent 10 minutes cooling them down in the biggest puddle we could find! Oh well we had fun

Monty’s play date

Monty visit 094 (2)

Monty visit 073 (2)It was lovely to catch up with Monty and his owners. He was very excited and relished the opportunity to run with the pack. We were excited to see how well he has grown and the great job Justin and Sammy have done with his training.

Monty visit 059 (2)We can only hope he grows into those ears, they hold promise of a gorgeous bulky head. His movement was clean and effortless despite his puppy gawkiness

Watching and nattering about dogs, a lovely way to while away a sunny Sunday.

A postcard from Monty

Hi Lin and Steve,

Attached are some pictures of our beloved Monty.
He now knows how to sit, shake (left and right), drop, crawl, pick up news papers, put food on his nose and leave it, bring a rope to me crawling over thin ice (haha - from the movie 5 below - just in case we take him to the snow) and his best new trick is to talk. Yes talk.
Monty is a very polite young boy but can show his stubborn traits at times. A typical mal.
He will occasionally do something he knows is naughty, like get on our bed, then quickly run off tucking his tail under and bolting fast. He has real personality.
Monty loves his two friends Snowy and Ceasar. These two bunny rabbits have grown up with Monty over the last few months and keep each other very entertained.
He likes to let them out of the cage and give them big licks. I sometimes think he believes they are little dogs.
He loves to fetch and go for walks. He especially loves the water and trying to get into the shower at times.
It is hard to believe how fast the time has gone, and how big he is getting (he now weighs over half my weight!)
We are currently in the process of getting him ready to show.
We are very proud of our little Montville. He enriches our lives every day.
Hope all is well.
Justin and Sammy

 Our Aim

Clancy and Cath

A huge thankyou to Catherine Loft and her Koolrunnings breed lines for giving us the chance to establish our kennels.  We are privileged to have been able to breed a Clancy daughter, Misty and a Deago son, Diablo. Both Clancy and Deago are now in the Malamute Hall of Fame.  Although not our first litter, the Koolpups will be where our future lies. Cath’s unflagging encouragement and support have seen us through some of the many highlights and heartbreaks that go with owning and breeding dogs.  Having Cath as a mentor and sounding board has been invaluable. Pictured here, Cath shows her winning style with Clancy.

We aim breed and race the best sled dogs we can by using sound dogs, with great temperaments, conforming as close as possible to the breed standard.  Campaigning breeding stock to their Australian titles, using American CHD ratings, hip scores and type to select candidates.  Steve would also love to run a four dog Mal team. (too few of them in South Australia)
