Runningdog Kennels

For the love of our dogs and the sport of sled racing Aussie style (called dryland racing) we have undertaken a small breeding program. We hope to continue to race and show our dogs, to promote the breed and the sport.

Our first litter was born 24th February 2002, seven lovely black and whites. Misty had our second litter 26th September 2008, nine healthy grey and white puppies.

We are currently showing Canto and Mischka from Misty 2008 litter. Seen here the two pups are enjoying a run in the exercise yard.

CH RUNNINGDOG STARFIRE

Mischka gained her last points for her title today under Ms Chalmers from NZ. She won over quality competition and we couldn’t be prouder. No pictures yet – maybe tomorrow.

Misty Update

Misty Update

Still waiting for Misty to start her season. we think our counting is correct which means she’s very late or she had a silent season that we missed. Will keep people posted.

Took Mischka and Canto to a show last weekend and got Reserve challenges for them on alternate days. Canto is a real show pony and will do anything for cabanossi. Mischka just got too excited and did 360 spins in spite of copious training before hand where she of course performed beautifully.

Kennels are proceeding apace – runs are just waiting for doors.

House likewise – tilers are working on floors, painters have done first coat so hopefully not long now. Can’t wait.

Waiting on news of Rayah – had an accident with a dogwash, just one of those things - hope he’s recovers soon.

Hi Danny, hope Zita’s keeping you busy and all’s well.

Graham tells us he’s had Storm out on a scooter, scary for him and pure joy for Storm. He loves to run.

Cath had her baby, Ruby Elizabeth on 28th July, 6lbs 13oz. Congratulations guys.

Koolrunnings have re- leased Misty (Ch Koolrunnings Ice Mist) for a litter planned mid in 2010. She will be bred under the Koolrunnings prefix to frozen semen from BIS / BISS Am Ch Barrenfield Major Knockout .... stay tuned

Easter Shows April 2010

Mischka picked up 5 Bcc’s this weekend and 1 RUBOB. canto only managed 2 RUBOB’s.

Had 2 open shows this weekend and have 2 more weekends of showing until sledding season.

Mischka again did well in the opens getting State Bred in Show for the first and BCC for both. with 20 mals entered I wish it was for champ points. We had more mals entered for the opens than we did for a real show lol and all the usual suspects.

We were able to catch up with Graham and Storm and had a great time running Mischka and Storm.

Next year we may try Canto too.

Canberra Royale 2010

Canto won Junior of breed at the recent Canberra Royal,

shown by Cath and Michael. He is developing into an outstanding example of the breed both in form and temperament. At 17 months, he is beginning to fulfil the promise he had as a pup. we are all proud of him and love him to bits.

The hot weather and family increases (Kaylee Jade Burger), have meant that we have shown very little and not at all since Christmas until now but will be doing more shows in the near future.

Many thanks to Cath and Scott for their superb hospitality, putting up with us over the weekend.

All Breeds 28/29 November 2009

Had an interesting weekend. Saturday and Sunday with NZ judges and puppies having stopped blowing and starting to come back into coat.

On Saturday (judge Mr G. Carleton - NZ), Canto won his class (Jnr) and got a long hard stare from the judge for reserve. Mischka (Jnr), lost as she acted like a pork chop in the ring. (I wasn’t running well either LOL.)

Sunday (judge Mrs D Wright) , I ran them better and Canto got reserve to Thor and Mischka won her class.

Canto beat Mischka for Junior of breed. No mallies got up in group.

Will try to get some piccies next weekend to update our puppy profiles and it would be nice to post some of the others for their first year too (happy B’day to all BTW).

Can post to website if you email them to me and will catch up backlog soon.

Looking forward to Christmas and New Years, have a merry one all.

Updates

The website has been down for a while and technical issues prevented updates. Hopefully most have been resolved but we would appreciate feedback if you are unable to sign in or post the latest info or pics to the site.

From our side….

Mischka and Canto showed well at the specialty and the Royal Adelaide Shows. Thanks heaps to Cath for handling Canto for us.

Canto went Best Puppy in show at the Specialty and Mischka Best Junior bitch. Judge was Brett Thompson from SA who showed consistency throughout the show, awarding Deago (their grandfather) another well deserved Best in Specialty Show (BISS)

At the Royal we did less well, although Mischka came 1st in the Junior bitch class and Canto 2nd in the puppy class.

Mischka 6 mths – 1st time as a minor

So good in the line up for so long, then sitting when we thought the judge was going to choose us. Ahhh well …….that’s show biz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Six months!

They have finished teething but are still puppies with lots more growing still to do. Zorro weighed in at 28.9kg and Mischka at 26kg. We hear that Storm is a whopping 37.6kg. In their first outing as minor puppies both puppies behaved well and Mischka won her class.

In class she was an angel and all seemed to be going well in the group line-up until she decided to plant her bum on the ground the moment the judge approached. Oh well never perform with kids or pets!

My new work buddy

Since Misty came into season she has become increasingly lethargic, now she insists on curling up under my desk. This is rather cute but it doesn’t leave much room for the legs to stretch and reaching the keyboard to tough on the back. Hopefully she will fall pregnant and make it all worthwhile.

We are taking blood daily for progesterone tests and expect an AI within a few days. I just hope she hasn’t decided she’s going to spend her entire pregnancy there.

Our Aim

Clancy and Cath

A huge thankyou to Catherine Loft and her Koolrunnings breed lines for giving us the chance to establish our kennels. We are privileged to have been able to breed a Clancy daughter, Misty and a Deago son, Diablo. Both Clancy and Deago are now in the Malamute Hall of Fame. Although not our first litter, the Koolpups will be where our future lies. Cath’s unflagging encouragement and support have seen us through some of the many highlights and heartbreaks that go with owning and breeding dogs. Having Cath as a mentor and sounding board has been invaluable. Pictured here, Cath shows her winning style with Clancy.

We aim breed and race the best sled dogs we can by using sound dogs, with great temperaments, conforming as close as possible to the breed standard. Campaigning breeding stock to their Australian titles, using American CHD ratings, hip scores and type to select candidates. Steve would also love to run a four dog Mal team. (too few of them in South Australia)
